Two things we know about Jesus’ habits: He was always on the move and he was always talking with God. From when he walked down into the Jordan River to be baptized by John to when he walked out the tomb, Jesus was walking and talking. Movin’ and groovin’ with God. That’s what I call a life of prayer!
This year, we are going to join our legs and lungs and connect with God our Father. As a family of faith, we will dedicate our souls and soles to the movement of prayer.
When Jesus was about to ascend into heaven, his disciples were eager to get on with ministry. There was Good News to announce. There were new disciples to recruit. But Jesus told them to hold on. Rather, return to Jerusalem and go to the upper room and pray. Take time to listen, to see, to wait. And then the Holy Spirit came and gave them not only a promise but power – discernment led to determination. Waiting clarified their witness.
This year you are invited to pray, without ceasing; alone, together, aloud, and in silence. Each month we are lifting up a particular prayer and particular posture. During the nine months of the program year, September – May, there are 9 classic prayers you can use – one per month. You are invited to pray them during their assigned month. Just think of the power and the presence of the whole congregation praising and praying together! You can download the prayers HERE.
Every month an opportunity will be shared to gather for a community prayer. These events are designed for people of all ages and families of all sizes. It is amazing how when we get up, walk, exercise, and move, we discover and experience how God has knit our heart, soul, and minds together.
